Saturn and Puto Get Personal (again) on January 31

Saturn and Pluto are two powerhouse planets that generate a palpable force on our planet and in our lives.  Think of Pluto as a force that squeezes energy up and out. Volcanoes are ruled by Pluto; feel the flowing river of molten lava that lives under our green and fertile planet. Now, visualize the power and unconstrained action of a volcano. Presto – Pluto! Like the Phoenix, a new vision arises from the ashes of our old, burnt out selves.

Saturn and Pluto dance periodically throughout a 33 year cycle. Especially notable throughout the cycle are times which are often associated with financial stress. Think of it as a shearing effect, a force which breaks apart solid objects. Astrology would predict that more earth changes and dynamic upheaval in our social order and economic outlook are still on the agenda. On a personal level, however, you must use this energy to ‘get real', to challenge and/or eliminate that which you no longer want in your life.

In addition to our world literally coming apart, one very curious thing I noticed during the previous Saturn/Pluto square (November 15, 2009) was that STUFF in my home kept breaking. Amazing! I rarely break things, but last November, several items in my kitchen just fell apart. I had a large glass platter literally shatter in my hands, a couple of plates, and even some mugs. The glass platter was the most interesting, because it dissolved into angular pieces; much like I would envision the energy of Saturn and Pluto.

Happy Birthday Tiger Woods

“Uranus – the Royal Snake of Egypt. What ever he does not transform he will devour.”

(Evangeline Adams  1868/1932)

Today is the birthday of  Tiger Woods; the man who was, once upon a time, long long ago, beloved by many and now, seemingly beleaguered by all. I am not writing to declare judgment on his personal life, rather to illustrate the awesome power of astrological transits.

Using birth date from AstroData Bank, Tiger's natal chart demonstrates one of the classical Gauquelin markers for a successful athlete, Mars applying to the Midheaven. Seeing that his Mars in Gemini, I immediately understand that part of his great talent is excellent eye/hand coordination. But, alas, that is not all to the Tiger Woods story – now that the whole world knows details about his personal life. (see link to Tiger natal chart with transits below)

OK – the guy does have Moon conjunct Neptune in the ‘sporty' sign of Sagittarius; that explains a lot! He's just a born player. Of course the advertisers would love him – Neptune is about imagery and the power of imagination. And, naturally, he would love playing, well, umm, . . . . . lets just call it – dating – lots of women. One for each season and every mood – the blond, the brunette, the fluffy one, the sporty one, plaids, silks; all nice in the moment.

And, this Moon/Neptune combination sits near the private Inner Sanctum part of his chart (in another activating sector) – the 3rd house, applying to the 4th. This point, technically called the Imum Coeli  (or IC – Latin for “bottom of the sky”) is the home of our innermost self. For Tiger, it opens the fertile ground of his mind. In an astrological chart, the IC provides commentary about how we manifest a body on earth, a home for the body, our childhood, and birth family. I like to think of it as a doorway where the soul enters into incarnation.

But, ouch, who or what turned Tiger's private life upside down and inside out – which planet  made a circus act out of a private life and family? Has to be Uranus. Tiger's chart is a classic example of transiting Uranus entering the 7th house of relationships. Uranus just tears stuff apart!

Properly said – Uranus is a catalyst which brings change only to that which needs to be destroyed and rebuilt. Or look at it this way; Uranus blows in like a  storm over water. There is wind, rain, lightening and thunder; next, whoosh, what you thought you had is suddenly gone. Hmm, Uranus is just not fluffy- it's hard to find soft sentimental New Age words to qualify this planet of swift and sudden chaos.

Happy Transformation as we greet 2010. Blessings – MW

The rest of the story. . . a vision

Previously, I told about the transformational power of a Mars/Saturn transit. How it seemingly corrected an injury from long ago. What I did not tell was what happened after the bicycle fall. That is as wonderful as the twist of fate which brought me to a karmic correction within my body.

Incidentally, I have been on a weight loss diet for the past 2 months, and am at exactly the same body weight I was when I originally had my auto accident 5 years ago. Having not been able to walk without pain, I had gained the proverbial ‘extra 20 pounds.' Well, it's gone now. And, I view the recent injury as a release of the trauma of the original episode. How convenient, as I return to the same body image, I relive an injury – only this time, it's a re-wind, and, much less traumatic.

But, the weight is not the magic associated with my sunset encounter with a skateboard. Instead, the magical story is about the hawk I saw just after I rode off on my bike. After picking up my scattered coins and water bottles, I engaged my dignity, and quietly rode off. Next, within 30 seconds, I encountered a large hawk which was curiously spread -eagle (sorry hawk) on the sidewalk. At first I thought the bird had a broken wing, it was in such an ungainly position. I consider the hawk to be one of my totem animals, and have seen many in flight, and even in trees, but never in such an odd conformation in the weirdest of places – on the busy sidewalk of a populated metropolitan area.

Almost as amazing was the fact that people continued to walk right by the giant bird, not paying any attention to the vision. Nobody even noticed! But, I was stunned, and of course, this was the next stop on my bike ride. The hawk was in such a curious position because it had a live pigeon under it's wing. Suppertime. My curious nature got the best of the situation, and as I approached, both the hawk and the ruffled pigeon flew their separate ways.

Hawks are messengers. So, I pondered my animal totem message. My interpretation is that the message from this magnificent bird was that I too, am again free to hunt, to fly, and to sustain my needs. It's not healthy to dig up the past, especially when one is dealing with trauma. However, apparently there were still some broken bones, because the past came calling in a way that allows me to release it. And, hawks always get my attention as well as respect.

My lucky break . . . a real life transit

Little did I suspect that my seemingly casual sunset bike ride on Hollywood Beach this weekend would result in a life changing incident. With transiting Saturn conjunct my natal 6th house Mars, I have been on the alert for potential injury. Knowing that Saturn rules things like broken bones, and Mars is the master blaster of accidents, I have been diligently manifesting the more positive potential for this transit by working hard. (that's Saturn/Mars stuff, too- applied effort)

Having been so careful,  I was shocked when an errant skateboard shot in front of my bicycle, and I went flying onto the ground. Fortunately the owner of the skateboard ran off before I could kill him. I was left with only my skinned hands and knees, and the necessity to retrieve my dignity.

But, soon – my right foot started to hurt. And, as the minutes rolled by, it began to REALLY hurt. (My right foot was injured 5 years ago on an automobile accident, and has remained as a proverbial ‘canary in the coal mine' in regards to my overall health.) At first I panicked – ‘oh no, I cannot face another round of pain and rehab on my ‘special' foot.'

And, suddenly I realized, yes, my foot was hurting, but- it also felt FREE.  I could actually wiggle my toes and the overall balance of my whole body was instantly back to normal. The out of control fall and subsequent impact to my right foot had torn loose internal scar tissue remaining  from my old auto accident injury; something which otherwise would have been accomplished only by surgery.

My foot, although sore and bruised, is actually in better shape now than it has been for years! I can touch the earth in a whole new way. Thank you Saturn and Mars – this one worked out really right.
