What Is AstroCartoGraphy?
AstroCartoGraphy is a specialized branch of astrology that maps your natal birth chart onto the globe. Rather than focusing only on time, or when events unfold. AstroCartoGraphy reveals where different planetary energies are emphasized on Earth. At the moment of your birth, each planet occupied a specific position relative to the horizon and meridian.
AstroCartoGraphy tracks where those planets were rising, setting, overhead, or beneath the Earth across the world. These positions form planetary lines, each carrying a distinct influence that can be experienced when you live, travel, or even form relationships connected to those locations.

Astrology Mapping, Relocation Astrology, and AstroCartoGraphy
The terms Astrology Mapping, Relocation Astrology, and AstroCartoGraphy are often used interchangeably, and in practice they refer to the same underlying principle: place matters. AstroCartoGraphy is the system developed, trademarked, and formalized by Jim Lewis in the 1970s, bringing structure, clarity, and rigor to the idea that geographic location interacts meaningfully with the birth chart.
Relocation astrology is the broader concept; AstroCartoGraphy is the mapping system that allows astrologers to interpret locations with consistency and depth. And, while computer software can generate maps instantly, interpretation is everything. A planetary line does not operate in isolation. It must be understood in context of your natal chart.

Your birth chart does not change when you move. However, the new place yields your Relocated Chart which is a snapshot of what your birth chart would be had you been born at this new location. The relocated chart is an in-depth look beyond just the planetary lines and into the full expression of a twelve house astrological chart.

A Personal Introduction to This Work
My own journey with AstroCartoGraphy began long before it became widely known. In the mid-1970s, I was trying to understand why my life had carried me far from my roots in Colorado to Maine. This was a move that felt destined, yet inexplicable, at the time.
When I purchased one of the first AstroCartoGraphy maps ever produced, the answer became clear. The Northeast activated a powerful combination in my chart that aligned with growth, opportunity, and deep transformation. What was mysterious and troubling now made sense.
Over time, this awareness shaped not only where I lived, but how I understood destiny itself. In a later article, I’ll share more fully how place corresponded with pivotal events in my life. But even then, the lesson was clear: Place Matters, and the Power of Place is real!
Training, Lineage, and Why Certification Matters
AstroCartoGraphy is not a casual technique. Jim Lewis established rigorous standards for those who wished to practice professionally, including formal examination and ethical responsibility. I earned my certification in 1992, after extensive study and testing, and have applied this work continuously for over 25 years. There are only about 100 people worldwide who hold this certification. My certification exam was the hardest written test I have ever taken in my life, and I earned it not as a badge of exclusivity, but as assurance of depth, lineage, and experience.
When guiding people through decisions involving relocation, long-term travel, or major life transitions, discernment is essential. This is mentorship work. It requires patience, perspective, and respect for timing.
